As part of our commitment to accessibility Sedgemoor District Council's website is now speech enabled.
We have teamed up with Texthelp Systems to provide a service which gives our visitors the chance to actually listen to our website. All you have to do is download and install the free Browsealoud software by following the link on this page.
Browsealoud is a Microsoft Windows application designed for use with Internet Explorer 5.5, Netscape Navigator 7, and Mozilla 1.7.3 or above.
Speech enabling our website provides an additional way of accessing our information for people who find it hard to read. This includes those with dyslexia or learning difficulties, those for whom English is not their first language, or anyone with a mild visual impairment. It is not designed to replace other screen readers.
You download a free, small piece of software that works with your Internet Browser. Once the software has been installed, information on this site can be spoken aloud. You can control the voice, pitch and the speed. When you scroll over the text on the website, browsealoud will read and speak what you require. Browsealoud will read every page on this website. It can also read pdf documents in Adobe Reader Version 6.0 onwards.
Can I customise Browsealoud?
