Apprentice carpenters recruited

Homes in Sedgemoor’s maintenance and building partner the MD Group has recruited two new apprentice carpenters to work with experienced staff and keep the organisation’s housing stock in tip-top condition.

Homes in Sedgemoor Chief Executive, Peter Hatch, said:

“We are extremely proud to join MD, our partner contractor, to welcome their new apprentices.

“This was a key shared goal of our new contract, and I am delighted that MD have progressed it so quickly. Our industry needs many more apprentices so thank you to MD and the brilliant team at Bridgwater and Taunton College.”

Apprenticeships provide young people with an exciting opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the world of employment, whilst earning a salary and gaining qualifications.

The apprentices will be working with the MD Group teams and studying at Bridgwater College where they are providing the courses and supporting the apprentices throughout the programme.

MD Group Operations Manager, Paul, said:

“MD Group is delighted to be awarded the new contract to deliver repairs and empty home refurbishments in partnership with Homes in Sedgemoor.

“In-line with our commitments to deliver Social Value to the communities in which we serve, we employed two local trade apprentices that will study Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery. We’ll provide site-based training, mentoring, and work with Bridgwater and Taunton College – who will support their theoretical aspects of the apprenticeship. We welcome the new apprentices to the MD family and look forward to seeing their progression into full-time, qualified tradespeople.”

Hayden, the new apprentice carpenter, was welcomed to the world of working with HiS by organisation Chief Executive Peter Hatch at Bridgwater College last Tuesday morning. The second apprentice has been recruited to start as soon as possible alongside Hayden, and the rest of the MD Group.
