Shed pounds for the Phoenix Scouts

Bridgwater’s Phoenix Scout Group has received a grant from the Homes in Sedgemoor (HIS) Making a Difference fund.

The group, which was set up in 2018, has around 50 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. They are based in the Phoenix Centre in the Hamp area of the town.

Scout Leader Sarah Manuel said the group was very grateful for the £580 grant which they have used to buy a new shed, which is used to store their camping equipment.

Sarah said:

“We had an old shed that had been donated, but sadly it leaked, and a couple of our tents became rotten and fell to pieces.
“Fortunately, we got a grant from Hinkley Point for new tents and having a new shed which we can used to keep our camping gear in is a great help.”

Kaylun Henson, from HiS, and Ann Hooper, a Homes in Sedgemoor Involved Customer, came along to meet the Scouts and check out their wooden wonder.

Kaylun said:

“We are delighted to support the Phoenix Scouts. if you are involved in a community group that would benefit from support from the fund, visit www.homesinsedgemoor.org and search for Making a Difference.”

The Scout group’s next mission is to acquire some sports equipment including rounders and cricket bats and balls of all kinds. Any donations would be gratefully received. You can contact them at the Phoenix Scout Group on the www.moorsandcoastalscouts.org.uk website.
