Five sites to receive new refuse facilities

Homes in Sedgemoor has been working to install purpose-built bin store areas for Barton Close and four other sites across Sedgemoor.

Following visits to Bristol to understand how these facilities can improve recycling and reduce littering, Derek Quick, Investment Team Lead at Homes in Sedgemoor, said: “Waste and recycling storage solutions, which are an essential tool in our management of waste streams, help to increase our recycling successes while reducing associated fire risk, litter, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.”

Members of staff from HiS attended a meeting with residents about the developments at Barton Close, and further consultations will be held at Alpha House, General Higgins House, Rosewood and Coronation House.

The new bin facilities are hoped to improve recycling in the area, and regular inspections of the area will check for the effectiveness of the bins and monitor the area for fly tipping.

The anticipated cost of the improvements is £145,000 for the five sites and additional benches on green areas will be installed to replace any that have to be moved for the implementation of bin stores.

The new bins will have wide drop curbs to allow access for disabled and older people.
